It took me 20 years since my road first led me away from Myanmar with only USD 1900 to my name, then returned with a one-track mind and became one of Myanmar-based leading specialists on Food Safety with a solution to solve the complex food safety problem worldwide. I was happy helping food businesses in Myanmar to get food safety certificates and export their products around the world. Thanks to IFC-International Finance Corporation for grooming its consultants with knowledge, skills and attitude towards providing the best possible advisory services to the clients. I endeavoured to empower Business Owners and Middle Managers to reach unfathomable heights in food safety day-by-day with an ingrained philosophy of non-stop incremental improvement.
But it all ended abruptly as a result of Feb 1 Coup. Soon after the coup, I attended one Zoom meeting after another with the sounds of huge protests, followed by gun fires and explosions in the background. The projects where food businesses are provided with food safety advisory services, demonstrated how they can leverage food safety for reaching global markets and prepared to attract significant investments were shut down one after another.
Life was pitch-black. Having no more meetings and deadline to deliver the promised services, I was forced to sit in silence and reflect.
While serving at the largest food company in the world, I was leading Prerequisite Program (PRP) team at one of the most advanced infant formula plants in Singapore. I have spent 11-years ensuring hygiene and food safety standards so high they suited sensitive new-borns. On the other side of the coin, there are unique products which are good but could not prove safe with a strong food safety system implemented and also there are people who suffered from food borne illnesses. With 150 million illnesses every year in South-East Asia alone, the consequences of unhygienic food extend beyond the realm of public health. In the light of the pandemic, food safety is even more important than ever before. I have been proudly helping food processors struggling to sustain their business meet the global standard and capture more value for their offering. The only problem was I imposed a limit to myself for helping the businesses within a defined geographical location.
I counted my credentials – my Master Degree in Chemical Engineering and Diploma in Food Technology, my decade long experience in food safety at one of the best infant formula plant in the world, my penchant for teaching that was supported by Advance Certificates in Training and Assessment – I have to continue using them and making a difference.
I use my experiences from IFC-International Finance Corporation and the top food and pharmaceutical brands such as Nestle, Pfizer and Wyeth to develop training models that let clients own the process of food safety and quality assurance through my digital solutions on Global Food Safety Institute.
Having worked the nuts and bolts in food safety operations from hygiene zoning and gowning procedures, directing/supervising sanitation procedures, leading the factory PRP team, to exceeding company objectives, and everything in between, I see the same problem persists today. 1 in 10 people around the world fall ill after eating contaminated food every year. That is why I lend my experience at the highest level of hygiene and food safety to implement management systems that reduce losses and increase profits.
To move past the paralysis of uncertainty brought about by Covid-19, I now help clients ensure they have the tools needed to deal with whatever the future may bring. I have the online modules to train and coach professionals to take advantage of this rapid shift. As they learn and work on documentation while working from home one week, clients can do the physical implementation in the next week when they go to the factory.
I am proud to use an Certificates in Training, Assessment from the Workforce Development Agency in Singapore, along with experience in training adults for more than a decade to elevate clients to their desired standard through process implementation, quality management, and workforce training. My team has developed a unique ability to open people up to learning our style through helping organizations acquire the food safety certification of their choice.
By whatever road we travel, we learn. Leveraging my chemical engineering background, I empower clients with comprehensive knowledge of intricate processes that make up food safety and hygiene practices. My methodology focuses on enabling well-informed decisions by creating focused and productive systems to address the goal we outline together.
I remain loyal to the cause as I immerse myself in the team culture from a place of trust, right at the start of my relationship.
